Five window furnishings that keep your home cool in a Perth summer

Air-con bills add up fast in WA. The right window treatments can drop your cooling load by 20–30% — here are the five most effective options we install.

Perth summers don't mess around. With sustained 40°C days becoming the norm, the right window furnishings have shifted from a nice-to-have to a real comfort and cost-of-living issue. Here are five we recommend most often.

Stop the sun before it hits the glass, and you win twice.
The Shortlist

Five ways to beat the heat

Honeycomb (cellular) blinds

A honeycomb cross-section traps a layer of insulating air between glass and room — customers drop indoor temps 5–8°C on hot days. Best for bedrooms, west-facing rooms and skylights.

Outdoor zipscreens

Sealed side-track screens stop direct sun, wind and insects before they reach the glass. Perfect for alfresco areas and west-facing windows.

Blockout roller blinds

Light-coloured blockout rollers reflect heat back outside before it warms the room. Pair with curtains for an even bigger drop.

Plantation shutters

Angle the louvres for indirect light without losing the breeze. Norman shutters have excellent thermal performance.

Layered curtains with thermal lining

Blockout-lined curtains kill light for better sleep and insulate at the same time — double duty for bedrooms.
